the year in review December 30, 2007

                                              

jan- paige elizabeth was born.

feb- we packed our home and said our goodbyes.

march- we moved to spokane, addie turned 3 and brooke turned 32.

april- visited brooke’s family on the “west side” and worked on our house.

may- steve and brooke ran in bloomsday, we had lots of friends visit and worked on our house.

june- went back to lake county for a visit and worked on our house (do you see a theme here?)

july- steve turned 31 and we sweated our way through the month with many 100+ days and no a.c.

august- went to portland and california for reunions. good times (except for the 2 trips to the emergency room for addie).

september- addie started preschool, which made brooke as happy as addie.

october- my bff came to visit and we enjoyed the beauty of a true fall for the first time in years.

november- addie and i went to her first play, paige took her first steps and brooke joined roller derby.

december- lots of visits with family, a brief trip to leavenworth and the best christmas we’ve had in years!

because we are horrible parents who want to squelch the excitement and wonder of christmas morning we revealed the truth about santa to addisyn. we explained there was a man a long time ago who was the first santa that gave gifts to children, especially needy ones. but every time we see santa around town addisyn gets confused. so we explained that the santa’s she sees aren’t the REAL santa, but a man pretending to be him. she is ok with this and seems to understand it. but her big question now is, “did the real santa love jesus?”

it’s very important to her to find out and she wants to get an authoritative answer straight from the horse’s mouth, so she asked me if i would take her to the mall to ask santa.

i know it’s a wild card, but i gotta do it. i may just discreetly whisper in his ear “say yes to whatever she asks.”

the abused christmas tree December 11, 2007

our sad tree is daily hounded by two little pairs of hands that re-arrange it’s fake limbs and remove it’s ornaments. it has huge bare spots and then overly-loaded decorated spots. because i am such a smart and conscientious mother, i put all the breakable ornaments on top. but this only added to the imbalance of the tree. luckily, i am not a perfectionist, so i really don’t mind that our tree is sort of retarded looking. besides, isn’t it more endearing to have a tree with so much “character”?
