wheels and deals May 30, 2008
i’m in yard-sale season heaven. today, for $35 i bought a sweet retro-style sofa, roller skates for addie, a kid-friendly nativity set made out of blocks, a game, a few other toys and a yo-yo. i will post a pic of the new sofa later. it reminds me of the kind that was on the dick van dyke show. i love it!
danger zone May 29, 2008
according to the news last night, 4 out of 6 stabbings in the spokane area in the last week happened in my neighborhood. the other 2 occured near the skate park, where i have roller derby practice twice a week. basically, my chances of survival are getting slimmer!
helmet head May 28, 2008
we’ve concluded paige needs to wear a helmet.
in the last week she has:
fallen on her face and chipped her front tooth.
fallen down 3 cement stairs.
banged her head innumerable times on various objects.
walked into a wall.
thrown her body ( a few times) into her 4 year old sister. and hurt her.
she is such a bruiser. the only problem i can see with her wearing a helmet is that she would then use her head as a weapon, which she already does at times.
it’s salsa season May 28, 2008
here it is, the best salsa, that gets better, and hotter with each day. originally got it from gary reese.
2 cans mexican stewed tomatoes
2-3 pickled jalapeno peppers and some of the juice from the can
1 bunch chopped cilantro
1 bunch chopped green onion- whites only
1 t. minced garlic
chop and blend. we like it blended. some like it chunky. either way, it’s yummy.

girl- my mom hit me.
(accidentally with the front door).
survey says! May 21, 2008
being the overprotective, controlling parent that i am, i find this website very helpful when my daughter wants to watch a movie or tv show that i don’t know anything about or that i find questionable. check it out.
next stop: geriatrics May 14, 2008
WARNING: DISTURBING IMAGE BELOW
last night while doing laundry i tweaked my back. bad. i am not sure i can skate, which sucks because we have a bout this weekend,i can hardly pick up my baby and i have the mobility of a 2×4. i feel like i aged 30 years in one disastrous movement. getting old really sucks. just ask geri, the geriatric patient man-woman. although, life for geri probably sucks for reasons other than old age.

bread winner May 14, 2008
i rarely make bread but when i do, i get really excited. the anticipation builds as the hours of mixing, rising, kneading, and baking pass. by the time the i take the bread out of of the oven, i am ready to eat the entire loaf.
today i made amish white bread. it’s my favorite homemade bread recipe right now. i wish i had a picture for you, but we ate it too fast. while it was baking i made honey butter. it was delicious with hot fresh bread!
happy dirty work May 14, 2008
i love gardening. working outside in the dirt makes me happy and i have always loved having my own little patch of earth to work with. i enjoy getting to know plants and flowers as much as i enjoy getting to know my friends.
our yard isn’t big but i am having fun planting and transplanting and potting and watering and even weeding. i love to work hard and see the rewards of my labor growing big and beautiful.
bella May 11, 2008
please watch this movie, “bella” and tell me what you think.
i promise you will love it.
hotel mom May 9, 2008
lately i have been very child weary. i think it’s the combo of my kid’s ages, and probably a few other things, but it has added up to me almost falling off the “children-making-me-crazy-cliff”. after explaining my feelings in various word pictures to my husband (volcano, pressure cooker, explosion, etc.) he decided to give me some time away. and since a 2 week vacation in hawaii ALONE is not going to happen, he is converting the upstairs of our home into “hotel mom”, a full-service hotel including room service, a queen bed all to myself, movies, and, most importantly, lots of no-kid time. i can’t wait! (literally!).

sabbath May 4, 2008
i have been running myself weary. too much this and too much that and not enough down time. which got me thinking about the Sabbath and why the Lord instituted a Sabbath, (at this point, i better make it clear that i am not a theologian, nor do i claim to be! i haven’t studied this topic since bible college, a long time ago).
we need rest. the land needs rest. animals need rest. i keep thinking about the verse that says, “He knows we are dust…”. that is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. it gives us permission to be human and frail and tired and weary. He knows what it is to be human, and He remembers we are nothing more than dust.
so it’s ok to take a break. actually, it’s a must, even on a weekly basis. so tomorrow i am taking a sabbath. i already made our sunday meal, i am staying home from derby practice, i am not getting on the computer or talking on the phone. i am hiding from the world because it will go on without me, and observing the sabbath is a good reminder of that. this little piece of dust needs a break.
